'At Alexander Hermes PR we are renown for giving more than great PR'
'Alexander Hermes PR would have to be
the most potent PR agency to come out
of Australia'
Hitlist TV, School of Rock & Southern Cross Austereo
TV & Radio Producer - Jason Howard
Behind every famous CEO, there is a Regis McKenna, Regis got Steve Jobs and Mac on the cover of more than 30 magazines for just one launch. Now thats what I call good networks with the insight of a cleverly crafted pitch entailing Steve Jobs and Mac that would spark the world. Even though public relations, marketing and advertising design can be well crafted and thought out, publicity is truly where it is delivered, there is no amount of paid press that can match the credibility of free press and surrounding hype of a front cover feature with full editorial support in a sought after glossy magazine. - Alexander Hermes
Alexander Hermes, Dan Clinch and Gino Campagnaro are heading into the eye of the storm to put the spotlight back on some of Australia's hottest campaigns. Alexander Hermes PR is the brainchild of Alexander Hermes, previously the Hermes Entertainment Group. 'Campaigning is in my blood, it all started when I was told that my band couldnt play unless we had a fanbase, 12 months later we were packing out Australia's biggest theatres ... I know how to motivate an army, and I can make things happen. I don't walk into a meeting as some PR guy wishing for results, I walk in as an artist talking to another artist, in this industry we all have that common ground'. If my art presents well, it will resonate well with those behind the media. It is the unorthadox approach that gains the results and that is why the doors are always open to our favourite public relations enthusiast. Alex brings a vast experience in publicity management with both the Hermes Entertainment Group and Amuse Publicity & Events. Alex Hermes, also a music purest, advocate for the arts, artist, producer and guitarist released KNOW YOUR ENEMY in 2006 through MGM. 2011 will see the release of The White Wolf into the world music arena, which will be powered by the industries best producers.

Alex Hermes talks to old friend and Warner Music Rockstar, Hitlist TV & School of Rock Producer Jason Howard for the up coming ALEXANDER HERMES PR quartarius publication 'The Cutting Edge'. The project will see interviews from the producer of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers to just about every editor and producer in the entertainment, news and corporate media industries. Together, we are going to discover what it means to be 'cutting edge' and we are going to share it with you ........
Alex - Jason, you have been a professional guitarist and signed musician for most of your working life, your band Primary which is signed to Warner Music and was fronted by Sneaky Sound System vocalist Connie Mitchell made an impact in the Australian Music Industry. I still remember Destiny's Child leaving their show early at the Entertainment Centre in order to catch Primary at the Annandale Hotel. Today you are an in demand guitarist as well as a prominent TV & Radio Producer for Southern Cross Austereo. Out of the millions of guitarists in Australia, what was it that made you stand out? hard work? dedication? or did you just have a natural understanding of what was needed?
Jason - First and foremost, Hard work is essential! I grew up in the cover scene in Tasmania playing my first gig at the age of 12 and the progressing to playing 6 nights a week up till my move to Sydney at 23. I really believe that you need to be honest about what you do, never over or underestimate your ability and always be open to new ideas. It also takes a fair bit of guts to put yourself out there.
Alex -What bands have you played with in your career?
Jason -Bands of note would be , Primary, John Swan , Wendy Mathews, and guest spots with Angry Anderson, Matt Taylor and Billy Thorpe just to name a few.
Alex -Did you play Big Day Out or Homebake? If so what was it like?
Jason - Yes, Primary Played both the Big Day Out, Homebake and Rock the Millennium NYE concert at Darling Harbour & The 2000 Olympics with Savage Garden at the Domain ( to around 300,000 People ) Festivals are always great fun, and a good chance to catch up with other bands that you don’t get to see a lot.
Alex - As a Producer for Southern Cross Austereo you must have a lot of responsibility and a great eye for detail, could you give us an example of your working day?
Jason - Ok, My day starts with a very strong coffee!! My responsibilities change day by day, as I produce both Television and Radio and both are completely different worlds, I need to be able to adapt very quickly. Radio is a very spur of the moment creature. I might be editing a segment for TV and then get a request to produce a 30 second Radio that needs to go to air within 10 minutes. TV allows a bit more freedom, although , attention to detail is very important as we deal with a lot of different elements.
Alex - Could you tell us about how you make decisions as to what is cutting edge material and what isn't?
Jason - For me, the cutting edge is creating something that hasn’t been done before (which is really hard because there isn’t much that hasn’t been done). I like to look and listen to everything, keep in touch with every generation of consumer and try and find new and interesting ways of presenting a product.
Alex - There are people out there that want to push a product, whether it be film music or they may wish to get their agency or firm to the next level, what do these people need to look at when deciding on how to turn their product into something cutting edge?
Jason - The key is recognising what your point of difference is, like, you may have a singer that might not be the best , but he’s learnt how to fly! Every product needs an angle of some description.
Alex - Do you believe that your skills from being on the stage so much relate to your role as a producer?
Jason - Hmmmm , good question! I think my time on the stage has given me a fairly solid understanding of what people do & don’t like. From a production perspective, I have lot’s of great opportunities to work along side some awesome producers and engineers who have all had the same passion to produce quality products.
Alex - Is there anything else that you would like to mention?
Jason - Always stay true to what you do and never give up! And always be open to opinions!
Alex - So who is your favourite publicist?
Jason - That would have to be you....ALEXANDER HERMES PR is definitely Australia's most lethal publicity agency...
Alex - Are you just saying that to be polite?
Jason - No, you were going to type that in when I wasn't looking anyway. So I didn't really have a choice...
Comming soon
Ocean Commando is slowly coming together. We were hoping to start on this project this year, however Ocean Commando has been postponed until late 2013 due to other filming and album release arrangements. Ocean Commando is an anti shark finning documentary with a cutting edge strategy. In our attempts to learn more about shark behaviour, we are going to dive with the Great White Shark without a cage at 100 feet below the surface whilst hoping to hand feed one like the Tigers and Bull Sharks of Beqa Lagoon. We will be travelling accross the globe on our Anti Shark Finning campaign, boarding boats and cutting long lones freeing 1000's of sharks and Dolphins. It is going to be different and our team is wild and fearless. The footage taken for this trailer is from our dive in Beqa Lagoon Feb 2011.
Everyone that hears Heath Browns Film Score is in total awe. We believe that Heath Brown will become one of the greats and we are hoping to develop with Heath by exposing him on the international platform.

What can I say about Lenny. He is absolutely without a doubt the best person I know to hit the town with. Discovered by Molly Meldrum, he now has a long string of credits in television and with old majors such as Mushroom Music. Lenny has also co writen projects with the likes of Baz Luhrmann. (you may know Baz from the likes of Moulin Rouge) Personally, I have seen Lenny do some amazing things in his career and one of them was with The Beauty Book for Brain Cancer. Lenny has quite alot to offer a publicity and advertising campaign with his expertise in LA publicity management, film score, album releases, remix's and film production. I wont be surpised if we see Lenny on Oprah promoting the Beauty Book for Brain Cancer within the next few months.
(Now this is a true story, and I didn't post this particualr photo of Lenny to be a name dropper), however I looked everywhere for a photo of Lenny as I had nothing on my phone or on my hard drive, however I was saved by google when I found a photo of Lenny with Lindsay Lohan in LA whilst working on The Beauty Book. These two together must have made a wicked cocktail!! I also remember stumbling on this photo in a magazine somewhere which put a smile on my face.
The boys have managed to get the support of the likes of Hugh Jackman, Carmen Electra, Jessica Alba, Scarlett Johansson, Justin Timberlake, Channing Tatum, Paris Hilton and Fergie just to name a few... I am amazed but not surprised. Ohhh, did I mention that Lenny has nursed me back to life, carried me home on his shoulders and chauffeured me the next day.... then he refused to let me pay for dinner at his restaurant...
Well, in my opinion I think Dan is a total genius. As an engineer/producer, writer and music conservitorium graduate, Dan is certainly one of the rare ones that shines brightly in the industry. Dan has an amazing list of credits under his belt, however you will never hear Dan make any mention of what he has achieved. So I will do it for him, Dan has engineered and produced artists such as:
Delta Goodrem
SilverChair
Rubikon
Screaming Jets
Guy Sebastian
Shannon Noll
The Vines
Super Jesus
Australian Idol
The list goes on for Dan Clinch and we are really looking forward to hearing some of Dan's future work with his new Record Label and Publishing company Augustus Gloop. "A Beautiful Life" is an amazing song and we are all excited to hear Dans craftmanship.
Whether or not an Augustus Gloop artist gets nominated for an ARIA next year, we will be down the front totally intoxicated and loving the show. Fingers crossed, "A Beautiful Life" is coming out of the closet, and we will be proud of the single regardless of any outcome.
6 people died from a mosquito bite in the same year that 4 poeople died from a shark attack.
Ocean Commando is a rock band making a film about Ocean Conservation. We have designed a new and cutting edge campaign strategy in order to create more awareness and a better understanding of our oceans. Our oceans have become fished out and for a scuba diver, it has become a sad experience. We need to stop fishing altogether for at least a year so our ocean life can replenish. itself. If we continue to fish out the waters, we will see more shark attacks on humans.
We are losing over 100,000,00 sharks every year, and it is estimated that we are losing around 73,000,000 sharks to shark fin soup pirates alone. Our sharks are dissapearing, and without sharks our reefs will die. We need to exchange the fear of sharks into a respect. They are creatures of habit that belong in the ocean. The film Ocean Commando is going to be ground breaking and like no other documentary made before, we are going to get wild and down with The Great White, The Tiger, The Bull and The Hammerhead. We are recruiting Ocean Commando's now, we are not looking for resumes, we are looking for divers with a lot of heart and common sense.

Now, we have way too much on our plate already. However when Dan Clinch and Alex Hermes heard 'It's a Beautiful Life,' they had to sign their first artist under the new record label Augustus Gloop Records.
We both fell in love with this song immediately and signed the song before it had the opportunity to go to the majors. The song will go into production under Dan Clinch and we are hoping to hit the charts with this amazing track.

In a patented process, Dr Hermescec demonstrates that chemically modified softwoods can replace rare hardwoods for almost any purpose, where strong, durable and stable wood is required. At Yangzhou Blackwood Co Ltd facilities are established to manufacture Blackwood materials, as well as continuing an ongoing research and development programme. Dr Branko Hermescec, an Australian academic/scientist has a life-long passion for conservation of tropical forests and it's hardwoods. Desertification of once lush and green jungles is advancing at alarming rate, and when rain forests die, the World will die with them. All because of an insatiable demand for heavy slow-growing hardwoods, which are impossible to regrow in our time. Despite legislations banning extraction and export of rare species, the business is as usual. Shiploads of 10,000 tons or more of smuggled logs are regularly off-loaded in the ports of industrialized countries, priced well below the replacement costs. www.blackwoodproducts.com

My pick for whats red hot is Tortured Willow. Why? Because its good old fashion bush weed at its best!! TW is my favourite band for 2011.
"I heard that Jordan Roach was an amazing guitarist with some serious string cred, however I refused to believe that anyone could be that good! Well that was until I saw Jordan tickle those bush weed strings. Now I must admit that Shalom Andrews has a voice that totally soars whilst Lenny Viall (bass) just gives hits the spot with that thunderous bush weed tone. Did I forget someone? George Blore (drums) is the man that holds the act together with that undeniable beat that keeps you rocking. This band is a combination of uniqueness and talent which has led me to believe that they are one of the best bands in Australia at the moment. - Alexander Hermes PR
Tortured Willow is an Australian bush weed domesticated in suburbia. It begins its life growing up-right, and then contorts and twists before curving back to horizontal Tortured Willow are two words representing what is harsh and soft, violent and peaceful, angular and elegant. Tortured Willow as a band embodies the same contradictions – its sound is grounded in blues and roots, but contemporary infusions make you think outside the square. Mirror Maze, a song that begins in traditional blues form, turns mid song to sections inspired by trippy psychedelia. Pain in the Head Blues opens and closes with a sound that would be at home on Blind Willie Johnson's porch, but internally rocks its out. Much of TW's music employs the distinctive sound of the slide guitar, while others such as 20 Years to Go and Trials Tribulations and are more akin to a ballad unfolding. A link between all of the songs is thoughtful lyrics that make a statement. Principle songwriter Shalom Andrews writes what is personal but is also universally relatable to the human condition. Themes include illness, body image, growing up in isolated suburbia, fear, employee blues, questioning of life purpose and being crossed in love. However, there is no wallowing in self pity or indulging in navel gazing. Expression is found in soaring vocals, smokin' slide guitar and plenty of foot stompin'. Shalom started the band in 2008 bringing a swag of songs and a voice honed from years of singing pre-war blues of Dinah Washington and Bessie Smith. After scouring Sydney for a slide guitarist, she found a collaborator and co-arranger in former school classmate Jordan Roach who grew up in the same suburban tangle. Shalom and Jordan worked as a duo at some of Sydney's most prestigious bars and venues, and then scored skilled band members Lenny Viall (bass) and Samuel Achenbach (drums) to perform on larger stages and festivals. Two singles from their EP produced by Syd Green have been released this year. Long Ride Home was number 2 on the roots charts of respected indi radio station Triple J Unearthed. The accompanying video clip to their second single, Mirror Maze gained over 40,000 hits on youtube. The EP from this band on the up will be released mid 2011.
